Hats off to Leïla Hamoutene and her novel "Le châle de Zeineb". 'Zeineb's shawl' is a family saga that starts with Zeineb, a little girl whose world is going to fall apart in 1840 when the French invade her region.

Zeineb begins narrating the events that are going to reshape her life. Each of her female descendant will in turn pick up the story and show how the events lived by their ancestor has influenced their own fate. By telling the story of these women, Hamoutene follows the transformation of a country into a nation state.
