Algerian Women Novelists

This blog is dedicated to Algerian women authors (I don't use the term 'female' because I find it demeaning) and to their novels.

Algerian literature's early beginnings can be traced back to 1920, with "Ahmed ben Mostapha, goumier" by Mohamed ben Si Ahmed Bencherif (for those who like to go back really far, then the second century AD is also a fair starting point with Metamorphosis by Apuleus.)

Since 1920, Algerian literature has steadily developped, especially post-colonisation, unsurprisingly.

In 2020, we will be celebrating the centenary of Si Ahmed Bencherif's novel. And with it, 100 years of Algerian literature in Arabic, French, Tamazight and Algerian Derja. Long may our literature live.

Long may the many women of the corpus be celebrated.
